Lorenzo Bandini’s Ferrari. Enzo was fighting with the FIA and the cars were entered by Luigi Chinetti’s NART team and painted in the USA white with blue stripes.

The Ferrari V12 injection horns are clearly visible. During the race this beautiful sculpture of a motor expired on lap 58.

Part of the Lotus team with BRM next with their orange noses. Look closely at the 2nd Lotus. It carries #17 and was a ride given to Walt Hansgen. Westfield Walt proved it was a good decision by finishing 5th.

The two Brabham factory cars are lined up on pit row. This part of the track was downhill - note the rock in front of the rear tire on the #6 car to keep it from rolling away.

Dan Gurney. With his typical smile fires up his Brabham to head out onto the track. Gurney fought inside the top 3 or 4 most of the race and was in 2nd when he retired.

Phil Hill does not look super happy as one of the Cooper mechanics explains something. The car was terrible all weekend with Hill starting last and going only 2 laps.

Jo Bonnier brings his Brabham Climax out of the paddock and onto pit row. The race cars were towed to the track, offloaded and driven into pit lane.

Jimmy Clarks Lotus 25. Chapman brought the newer 33 to the Glen but Clark preferred the 25. Clark was on pole but dropped back to 3rd early. A series of problems dropped his #1 car out of the event.

The 1964 USGP was a huge Ford event. The new Mustang did dozens of laps and the Ford GT was parked and featured at the start/finish line.

Mike Spence in the #2 Lotus. Spence was called in about half way through the race when Clark’s car failed. Clark got in Spence’s car and unlapped himself to finish 3rd.

Graham Hill in his #3 BRM out in practice. Graham won the race after some spirited racing with John Surtees Ferrari.

Ronnie Bucknam in the Honda F1 car. The 1961-1965 F1 rules called for a 1.5 liter engine. Honda built a shreiking V12 and placed it crosswise in the car.

Surtees and Graham Hill had a great fight. It appeared the John had the win when he experienced problems late in the race handing over first place to Hill.

The race winner Graham Hill takes the fast right leading up and over Watkins Glen’s famous hill. Graham actually scored more points than Surtees but in 1964 you could only count your best 6 results and Hill had to drop a 5th place finish.

Innes Ireland, the winner of the 1961 USGP was racing for BRP in a BRM. He qualified 10th but was out on the 2nd lap. Perhaps too much party on Saturday eve?

Richie Ginther drives the last turn as the sun sets on another gorgeous upstate NY day. Ginther spent 3 years with BRM but moved to Honda for 1965 and gave them their first GP win.

Phil Hill drove for Cooper in 1964. Not a great season in a mid pack car. It was a dismal weekend at the Glen with Hill having big problems in practice and retiring on lap 4.

Jo Bonnier in the Rob Walker Brabham Climax. Bonnier qualified a solid 9th but broke an axle early in the race.

Hap Sharp rented a ride in this Branham-BRM. He qualified 18th and retired after 65 laps
