The second race of the ‘69 season was held at the Mont Tremblant circuit, San Jovite. The McLarens were again the clear fastest in a big field of 27 cars. BARC chief Spankey Smith was there as both a photographer and as the host for the McLaren team in his now famous Winnebago. The great Oscar Koveleski and Jack Deren represented the barcboys with their McLaren. St. Jovite is just 80 miles north of Quebec. It opened in 1964 on a short circuit but was expanded in 1965 with John Surtees winning the first Player’s GP held there and then went on to win the first CanAm race in 1966. The area was popular due to the Mont Tremblant ski resort and the track followed. A fast, bumpy and rather dangerous circuit, the famous “hump” which caused two Lola T-70’s to go airborne at the first CanAm in 1966. Aston-Martin owner Lawrence Stroll bought the entire operation in 2000 and The Circuit is back among the racing world again.
