The last of the famous Nassau Speed Weeks. A winter reprise, Nassau attracted drivers and cars from around the world. Hap Sharp’s 2e Chaparral was quickest but Mark Donohue’s Lola was just as quick. A tight race until Sharp lost his car on the last lap. Even at its last gasp, a fabulous roster of drivers were there. A.J. Foyt, Jochen Rindt, Pedro Rodriguez, Peter Revson, Sam Posey and dozens of US drivers. The wonder was that Can-Am cars raced against MGB’s and Sprites. Cobra’s and Corvettes against Midgets and Mini’s. Red Crise was the head man but the government had changed and the patron, Sir Sidney Oakes had died. The sport would never see the likes of this esoteric event again.
