Factory Aston Martin DBR-1 of Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks was expected to be strong and they challenged for the first part of the race, but neither factory Aston finished.
The E.D, Martin, Chet Flynn & Ed Hugus Ferrari TR did not finish.
The Scuderia Cuba 2 liter 500TC Ferrari would finish 27th. Manolo Perez de la Mesa, Santiago González and Alfonso Gomez-Mena would drive.
This Carroll Shelby & Roy Salvadori Aston Martin DBR 1 lasted only 62 laps. The team would return in 1959 and while not finishing at Sebring they would win at Le Mans with Aston Martin.
The start with the winning #14 Ferrari with its sister #`5 leading one of the Aston's.
Mike Hawthorne in #15 sets up the #23 Ferrari of E.D. Martin and Chet Flynn. Hawthorne’s car was a DNF but he did put in the fastest lap of the race.
Luigi Musso (in car) teamed with Olivier Gendebien in the #16 Testa Rosa for 2nd. Gendibien would later team with winner Phil Hill to win LeMans.
Mike Hawthorn in #15 Ferrari he shared with Wolfgang vonTrips. He would be F1 world champ in 1958 but failed to finish at Sebring.
A TR-3 a few Abarths and a Lotus 11 make way for Moss to swing past them on the outside.

Jean Behra in the #42 Porsche RSK which retired after 105 laps. He then took over the #41 Porsche 550RS with Harry Schell * Wolf Seidel.
Ed Hugus in the Ferrari leads the Norm Scott, Frank Bott 550 RS. Hugus who shared with John Fitch would retire after 85 laps, the Porsche would soldier on to 39th.
